Fandino is a decent fighter but the type of opponent “Maravilla” would have handled easily when he was at the peak of his career but now, who knows?

Martinez (51–3–2) has been out of the ring for six years, since suffering a knockout loss at the hands of Miguel Cotto in 2014.

It’s not confirmed but Espabox writes that the opponent for 45-year old Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez could be Jose Manuel Fandino (15–6) on August 22 in Torrelavega.

Fandino (15–6, 8 KOs) last fought in November, when he stopped fellow Spaniard Sergio Fernandez in two rounds. He’s 35.

The card also features former super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez and current European super welterweight champ Sergio Garcia, whom you may remember as the guy who dominated Ted Cheeseman a couple Februaries ago.

Martinez (51–3–2, 28 KOs) announced in February that he had been training in Spain, felt good and intended to return to the ring in June. However, those plans were scrapped after the coronavirus took hold.

If Martinez (51–3–2, 28 KO) is committed to this, at least he’s initially going about it the right way.

Fandiño (15–6, 8 KO) is, in short, the correct sort of opponent for a 45-year-old with no knees. “El Traumatologo” turns 36 in a few days and consistently falls short against any competition better than “marginal,” notably lasting just seven rounds Esquiva Falcao in 2017.

Martinez, 45, is a native of Argentina who has lived in Spain for a number of years. He hasn’t fought since June 2014, when he fought Miguel Cotto with a nagging knee injury and was stopped in 10 rounds.

Boxing fans will surely have mixed emotions over this news: Former world middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martínez has finally booked his long-rumored comeback fight.

On August 21st, in Torrelavega Spain, Martínez will fight a scheduled ten rounder against local boxer José Miguel Fandiño (15–6).

Martinez told a Spanish TV station that he will face Jose Miguel Fandino in a 10-round middleweight bout on Aug. 21 in Torrelavega, a town in northern Spain. The original date was Aug. 22.

[The date was previously reported as August 22nd but was apparently moved from a Saturday to a Friday]. Martinez, age 45, has not fought since losing the world middleweight championship in 2014 to Miguel Cotto.

He retired afterwards, with most indications being that a knee injury had robbed him of the mobility upon which his ring success was based.

Fandino is 35 years old and his last fight was a November junior middleweight win over previously undefeated Sergio Fernandez.

He is, however, coming off of what’s probably the best win of his career against previously unbeaten countryman Sergio Fernandez.

As previously reported this show could be headlined by Jack Culcay vs Abass Baraou. Both matchups are very good and they all-German, and are both clashes between AGON Sports and Team Sauerland.

Next for former IBF super middleweight title challenger Vincent Feigenbutz (31–3) could be a fight at middleweight against Jama Saidi (17–1) in Berlin on August 26.

Heavyweight prospect Peter Kadiru (7–0) takes on Peter Wolf (5–0) on July 11 on SES outdoor promotion in Magdeburg (Germany). Wolf lives and trains in Vienna (Austria).

In October Universum will stage a show topped by an IBO eliminator between super lightweights Artem Harutyunyan (9–0) and Timo Schwarzkopf (20–4) in an all German matchup.

The winner will get a shot at Argentinean Jeremias Nicolas Ponce (25–0), who holds the IBO title.

Light heavyweight James Kraft (17–0–1) headlines against better-than-his record indicates, Czech Karel Horejsek (17–12–3). In the co-feature super welterweight Ali Dohler (3–0) is in tough against experienced Frenchman Fouad El Massoudi (17–12).

The “new” Universum Box Promotion join forces with a local partner returns after the corona-related break with a show at a drive-in cinema in Duesseldorf on July 11.

Revealed over the weekend and recently confirmed by the man himself, former middleweight champion Sergio Martinez will face Jose Miguel Fandiño in his return to the ring, which now takes place on August 21st.

Kermit Cintron recently claimed he wanted a rematch, but it seems he’ll
