After some anxious moments, former WBO Featherweight Champion Oscar Valdez (26-0, 20 KO) has an opponent for Saturday’s scheduled bout in Las Vegas. Adam Lopez (13-1, 6 KO), son of former 140-pound contender Hector Lopez, has stepped up on short notice. Here’s how you can watch the fight and a card that has some other intriguing bouts.

Valdez was originally going to face Andres Gutierrez in a 130-pound eliminator bout with the winner getting a shot at WBC Super Featherweight Champion Miguel Berchelt. Unfortunately, Gutierrez missed weight by more than 11 pounds and was thus moved out of the choice spot.

Valdez missed most of 2018 with an injury, but he was also experiencing some difficulties making the featherweight limit which prompted him to vacate his belt and move up to 130 pounds. A Valdez-Berchelt match could be epic, but Lopez is likely going to give his best efforts to thwart those plans.

While Lopez wasn’t originally preparing for Valdez, he had been in training camp. He was scheduled to fight Luis Coria on the undercard with the NABF title at stake. Clearly, this is a bigger opportunity for Lopez and a much stiffer challenge. Valdez isn’t always the most technically sound fighter, but he has proven to be a powerful puncher. We’ll see if that punch carries up to 130 pounds.

Valdez was a massive favorite over Gutierrez, and I’d expect the odds to be the same or even greater against Lopez. If you’re looking for other reasons to watch, there are a few.
